“You got internal affairs in my triad!” “You got triad in my internal affairs!”

Andy Lau (not to be confused with director Andrew Lau) plays a triad gang member working as a mole in the police’s internal affairs department. Tony Leung is an undercover cop working as a mole within the organized crime world.

Well, you just know a situation like this will eventually reach it’s boiling point when the mole in Internal Affairs is assigned to track down the mole in Internal Affairs, and simultaneously work to bring down the mobster for whom he’s actually working.

It’s actually far less confusing than I make it out to be. The story is incredibly well told and the intricacies of the plot are woven together expertly. I saw it after frantic recommendations by the friends of mine who adore Hong Kong cinema. Hell, I’d see it based on the title alone!

I was expecting a hard nosed Hong Kong crime thriller, and I got that, but what I was not expecting was for the movie to be as emotional as it was. It’s a crime drama with heart sheds tear

And that’s Tony Leung singing the theme over the end credits, by the way. He must be like a Hong Kong Will Smith only, you know not an annoying prick.

Martin Scorsese is poised to make the remake, which be called The Departed. Filling the roles of the double moles (hey, that rhymes) well be Leonardo DiCrappio and Matt Damon. I don’t mind the choice of Matt he’s proven himself to be a decent action lead in the Bourne franchise, but I still can’t take Leo as a tough guy. He still looks too much like the kid he was in Growing Pains, and I’m a little saddened that he seems to have replaced DeNiro as Scorsese’s muse.
